If your BFT gate has a cracked hinge, a snapped weld on the frame, or a bent post bracket, we can usually weld or fabricate the fix in one visit. Most BFT welding and fabrication repairs in Henderson run between $180 and $450 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing in place or fabricating a replacement bracket. We stock common BFT hinge plates, post brackets, and steel stock on the truck, so the majority of calls are done same day.
The way most Henderson owners discover a weld failure is quiet at first. The gate starts dragging slightly on the close, or there’s a faint creak that wasn’t there before. Then one afternoon the gate won’t latch cleanly because a hinge mount shifted a quarter inch. By the time you see a visible crack, the metal has usually been flexing for months. Desert heat cycles expand and contract steel daily, and BFT gates out near Inspirada and Anthem take that thermal stress year round. A cracked weld rarely fixes itself, but it also rarely surprises us. We know where these gates fail.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
We weld and fabricate for the full BFT residential line you’ll find in Henderson: the Deimos, Phobos, and Rigel swing gate operators, plus the older BFT sliding gate tracks and rack mounts. The welding points that fail are almost always the same across models: hinge weldments where the gate leaf meets the post, the operator mounting plate, and the rack clips on sliding gates. The motor itself rarely needs welding. What bends and cracks is the steel around it.
Identifying the right part starts with the silver BFT tag on the operator housing. The tag has the model and a serial number that tells us the production year, which matters because BFT changed hinge bolt spacing on some Deimos models around 2016. If your gate has no tag left, we measure the hinge center-to-center distance and the post thickness. That gets us the right bracket without guessing. For the actual steel, we use A36 mild steel for most repairs. It welds clean, holds up well in the Nevada sun, and matches the original gate’s movement without making the hinge zone too rigid. We use aftermarket steel stock freely, but for hinge pins and load-bearing brackets, we prefer the BFT-factory or a US-machined equivalent. The factory bracket on a Deimos hinge is drilled to a tolerance that cheap stamped copies don’t match, and that slop shows up as gate sag within a year. Latch and Post Gate Repair Henderson is an independent service provider, not a BFT dealer or affiliate. That just means we choose the part that actually holds, not the one in the brand catalog.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate drags or scrapes near the latch post. A failing hinge weld lets the gate leaf drop a fraction of an inch. The scrape is the tell. The hinge plate has pulled away from the post just enough to change the gate’s swing arc. Early repair usually means re-welding in place. Delayed repair means fabricating a new hinge plate after the old one wallows out the post holes.
- Creaking or popping when the gate opens after sitting. In Henderson’s heat, steel expands and contracts daily. A hairline crack opens and closes with the temperature, and the metal surfaces rub against each other. That pop is the crack flexing. It will grow.
- Visible rust line or brown stain below a bracket. A fine crack lets moisture sit inside the steel, even in our dry air. What looks like surface rust is often the leading edge of a crack that started from the inside of the tube. Sanding and painting won’t fix it. The crack has to be ground out and welded.
- Gate leans slightly toward the open direction. On a welded steel gate, a lean means a structural weld has stretched or let go. This is the most serious symptom. The gate’s weight now rests on the operator arm and the remaining welds, which accelerates wear on the motor and the other hinges.
- Operator works fine but the gate stops short or drifts back. A bent or cracked operator mounting plate changes the geometry between the motor and the gate leaf. The motor thinks it’s traveled the right distance, but the gate doesn’t close fully. The weld usually fails before the motor shows a fault code, so the operator gets blamed for the bracket’s problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For BFT welding and fabrication in Henderson, here’s what we quote on the phone and confirm before we start:
- Hinge re-weld (single hinge, in place): $180 – $260. Includes grinding the crack, welding both sides, and a rust-preventative finish.
- New fabricated hinge plate (one side): $260 – $380. We remove the old plate, cut and drill a new one from A36 steel to BFT’s original bolt pattern, mount and weld. This is the fix when the old plate is too thin or too corroded to re-weld.
- Operator mounting plate repair or refabrication: $200 – $340. When the plate is cracked, we’ll re-weld if possible. If it’s bent past true, we build a heavier replacement.
- Sliding gate rack clip weld repair: $150 – $240 per clip. We shore up or replace fasteners, then weld the clip or key the rack so the gate runs straight again.
The quote you get before work includes prep, the weld itself, grinding and dressing, and a protective finish so the repair doesn’t flash-rust before the paint cures. You’ll see the number in writing before we touch anything. The work falls under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if that weld or bracket fails within a year and the failure is our workmanship, we repair it again at no charge. No fine print. If we’re inside your garage or home to reach the operator, we lay drop cloths and wear shoe covers, and we photograph the cleanup before we leave.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling: look for visible cracks on the hinge plates and operator bracket, push gently on the gate leaf to see if it rocks or shifts, and note whether the gate is sagging on the latch side. Marking the crack with a pencil line lets you see if it’s growing week to week. That’s information, and we’ll use it when we diagnose.
What we don’t recommend is welding the gate yourself. A gate leaf is heavy steel under constant tension, and a weld that looks okay but lacks penetration can shear without warning, dropping hundreds of pounds of gate where a kid or pet might be standing. The weld on a hinge also has to be squared to the gate’s swing arc within about a eighth of an inch or the operator will fight it forever. There’s no shame in knowing where the line is. Cody Beckman learned the fundamentals of welding and metal fabrication at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending two decades focused entirely on gate systems, and he’d rather spend ten extra minutes tracing why a BFT operator is cycling short than replace a part that didn’t need replacing. FAQs
A factory weld on a BFT gate typically lasts 8 to 12 years in Henderson’s heat, though the side facing afternoon sun can fail sooner. Our re-welds and fabricated brackets usually outlast the original because we dress the crack properly, weld with good heat, and coat the repair against flash rust. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers workmanship on the weld itself. If it fails in the first year, we make it right. Call (775) 210-7739 to have us look at any BFT weld you’re worried about.
It depends on the material thickness and where the crack runs. A short crack on a heavy plate can be ground out, pre-heated, and re-welded stronger than it started. A long crack on thin or heavily corroded steel is usually better off replaced with a new fabricated plate. We’ll tell you which one applies to your gate and show you why in plain language before we touch anything. For an exact answer on your gate, call (775) 210-7739 and we’ll set up a free look.
A single hinge re-weld is a 45-minute to 90-minute job on site. A full hinge plate fabrication takes two to three hours because we’re cutting, drilling, fitting, and welding the new steel to match the original BFT bolt pattern. Most repairs are done in one trip. If your gate needs a custom fabrication we can schedule around a time that works for your household.
We carry A36 steel plate and bar stock, common BFT hinge pin sizes, and a range of pre-drilled brackets that cover most Deimos and Phobos swing gates in the Henderson area. For obscure or odd-year BFT models, we fabricate on site with our own equipment or source the part same week. We can tell you in one call whether your repair is same-day or needs parts ordered. Call (775) 210-7739 for a straight answer.
A gate that works quietly is one you stop thinking about, and that’s exactly the goal. If your BFT gate is cracking, scraping, or leaning, call (775) 210-7739. We’ll set up a free estimate, quote a written price before any work begins, and leave your driveway and entry like we found them. A live person answers the phone around the clock, so if the gate fails at 10 p.m. you won’t get a voicemail.
